August Chapter Meeting featuring SCAPE Landscape Architecture

About this event

In this presentation, John Donnelly, RLA, Technical Principal at SCAPE—a landscape architecture and urban design firm based in New York, New Orleans, and San Francisco—will discuss his approach to landscape design and construction in the context of a mission-driven practice.

As a firm that has built a strong national reputation for technical innovation and forward-thinking strategies to address both climate and social challenges through the built environment, SCAPE now finds itself at a turning point, with a rapidly expanding portfolio of built work projects across the U.S., translating concepts into reality.

In particular, John will discuss this juncture through the lens of a project in Memphis, Tennessee: Tom Lee Park, a 31-acre waterfront park along the Mississippi River. Currently under construction, the park is inspired by the dynamic hydrology of the Mississippi, its programming and topography defined by ‘micro-deltas,’ ‘riffles,’ and ‘tailouts.’ In recent years, it has also been a contested grounds highlighting broader issues of access, equity, and race in Memphis. (To learn more about the park as it evolves, follow SCAPE at @scape_studio or visit www.tomleepark.org.)
